Description
About the AI ContentLab
The AI ContentLab tests what generative AI can do for storytelling, production, and media operations. As part of Skydance’s Product and Technology organization, our team builds working prototypes fast, puts them in the hands of creative and production teams, and learns what earns a place in real workflows. LabOS is the front door to that work: a portal and launcher with single sign-on that hosts the Lab's growing family of prototypes, from Styleworks (LoRA style training and generation), Creative Studio Workflows and the ComfyUI designer sandbox, to Story Engine for agentic production. Additional prototype applications support media intelligence and analysis tools, object tracking and replacement, and key art automation.
Role Overview
As Product Owner for the LabOS Prototype Platform, you will own LabOS itself and run the prototype product-development lifecycle for the AI ContentLab across 4p-6 prototypes at once. You will manage several small prototypes at once, not a portfolio of full-scale products. Each one is built for fast evaluation with a small, focused user group, and needs clear scope and discipline, but not production-level scale, support, or release overhead. You will take each prototype from proof of concept through structured evaluation to a clear outcome: a production handoff, a pivot, or a well-documented sunset. Lab leadership sets portfolio priorities; your job is to make sure every prototype is built, tested, measured, and decided on with discipline. You will report to the Director, Program Management, AI ContentLab.
What This Role Is and Is Not
This role is
- Owner of the LabOS platform backlog, roadmap, and prototype inventory
- The driver of the prototype lifecycle, from POC through evaluation to handoff or sunset
- The keeper of evaluation discipline: success criteria, time boxes, reviews and recommendations
- The link between stakeholders, program leads and engineering, closing the feedback loop
This role is not
- The decision-maker on what the Lab builds; portfolio priorities are set by Lab leadership
- A go-to-market role; prototypes are not taken to market by this position
- A production code role; technical fluency is essential, but you will not write production code
- Ownership of production systems after handoff; receiving teams own them from transition
Key Responsibilities
- LabOS Platform Ownership
- Own the backlog and roadmap for the LabOS platform itself, including the portal, access and single sign-on, onboarding, the launcher, and shared services.
- Keep a current inventory of every hosted prototype, with its status, owner, and stage in the lifecycle.
Prototype Development and Testing
- Drive development and testing across multiple prototype applications at the same time.
- Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria; run sprint ceremonies and backlog refinement.
- Coordinate user testing and UAT with creative and production stakeholders.
Facilitate onboarding sessions for new users.
- Stakeholder Feedback Loop
- Work with stakeholders and program leads to capture, document, and prioritize feedback, feed it to the development team, and close the loop on what changed.
- Conduct routine demos on product features and upcoming enhancements.
Evaluation Governance
- Define success criteria and metrics for each POC up front, and set a time box for every evaluation.
- Make sure an architectural review is scheduled and completed for each prototype under evaluation.
- Document outcomes and make a clear recommendation to continue, pivot, move to production, or stop, knowing when a POC has run its course.
- Review and weigh in on scope documents with program leads and engineering, flagging scope creep, risks, and dependencies early.
- Track usage, adoption, and costs across prototypes, with regular dashboards and status reports for Lab leadership.
Production Handoff
- Prepare handoff packages for production (requirements, architecture review outcomes, test results, known issues, usage and cost data, user feedback, operating notes) and support the transition to receiving teams.
Required Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a product owner or product manager, ideally on AI-focused technical or platform products.
- Proven ability to run several workstreams or applications at once in an Agile environment.
- Technical fluency in generative AI, including diffusion models, LLMs, and agents, sufficient to write requirements and test hands-on.
- Working knowledge of node-based workflows such as ComfyUI, media pipelines, APIs, and cloud and GPU cost concepts.
- Confidence discussing design trade-offs with engineers and architects; production coding is not expected.
- Strong writing skills for user stories, acceptance criteria, evaluation summaries, and handoff documentation.
- Proven ability to partner with creative professionals across theatrical, television, and social media, scripted and unscripted, translating their needs into practical AI solutions and earning their trust along the way.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in media and entertainment or creative production.
- Hands-on use of ComfyUI or other generative image and video tools.
- Background in AI cost and usage analytics, with Power BI or a similar reporting tool.
- CSPO, PSPO, or a similar product owner certification.
- A track record of moving proofs of concept into production.
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Structured, evidence-based decision-making (including knowing when to stop); stakeholder management across creative, production, engineering and leadership audiences; prioritization and scope discipline; clear written and verbal communication; and the curiosity to learn new AI tools quickly and test them hands-on.
Success in the First 90 Days
- A complete inventory of LabOS prototypes, with current status and named owners.
- A standard evaluation template, with success criteria and time boxes, in active use.
- The first cost and usage dashboard delivered to Lab leadership.
- At least one production handoff or sunset decision documented end-to-end.
